(1) Biggest Jalur Gemilang Made of Beads
Miri City Council is the record holder. Council provides the beads required
for ten handicraft stallholders to produce the flag made of beads.It
takes them a month to complete. The length in the record as certified by Officer of
Malaysia Book of Records (Cik Myra Dzaman) is 3 meters in length and 1 meter in
width. The flag weighs more than 30kg.
(2) Most Eco Bags used for Outdoor Shopping In a Stadium (Miri Stadium)
The attempt is being made on 1st May 2010 at Miri Stadium with the
intention to create awareness and promote the use of EcoBags for
shopping. It is the Council's kick-off programme of No Plastic Bags Everyday
Campaign. Prior to this, major hypermarkets, supermarkets and shopping
centres have joined the campaign of "No Plastic Bag on Saturdays and
Sundays"
The organiser, Miri City Council has registered 4,260 "green shoppers"
at 7.30 am, 4,500 at 8.00 am, 5,303 at 9.00 a.m. and finally after the
closing at 10.00 a.m. we have registered 5,432 "green" shoppers. We have
achieved the record as the target needed is 5,000 shoppers.
Both record attempts are witnessed by the Guest of Honour i.e. YB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. George Chan Hong Nam, Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak 1. Other VIPs present are City Mayor, Lawrence Lai Yew Son (Record Keeper), YB Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui, YB Datuk Lee Kim Shin, YB Haji Encik Ahmad Lai B. Bujang, YB Encik Andy Chia Chu Fatt, YB Encik Aidan Wing, En. Sebastian Ting Chew Yew, Deputy Resident Miri Division, District Officer of Miri, City Secretary of Miri City Council.
