VALUATION & RATING DIVISION

Division Head : Encik Ismail bin Ashmat

  • To act as professional witness in all objection and rating appeal cases for the 20 Local Authorities in the states.
  • To supervise 20 Local Authorities in valuation and rating works such as inspection and referencing of properties, filing and recording, preparation of building site plans, preparation and publication of the Councils yearly valuation lists and levying of rates.
  • To check and scrutinize the annual submission of claims of contribution in lieu of rate in respect of all States Government buildings for 23 Councils in the States (the claim to be paid by Federal Government)
  • To check and scrutinize the annual submission of claims of contribution in lieu of rates in respect of all Federal Government buildings for 24 Councils in the States (the claim to be paid by Federal Government)
  • To provide in-service training for the staff of Local Authorities in valuation and rating works.
  • To advice the legislative aspect of rating and sub subsequent amendments.
  • To oversee and responsible for all Councils on the submission and preparation of annual prescription of rates for the approval of Minister and Subsequent publication in the Sarawak Government Gazette.
  • Set and formulate examination questions for confirmation and promotion of Councils' Rating and Valuation staff.
  • Process and examine the application for write off and remission of rates for approval of the Minister.
  • To explore additional revenue base holdings by reviewing the present method of valuation of SESCO, Telecom, Various Ports, Airports, Water Board and to implement valuation of vacant land.
