It is indeed my great pleasure to make some remarks for this humble inaugural edition of the Website of Sibu Rural District Council. My gratitude goes to the Ministry of Environment and Public Health Sarawak for its initiative in encouraging the local authorities in Sarawak to establish their respective websites. This definitely contributes towards realising the vision of an electronic government among the local authorities in the state of Sarawak.

Undeniably, we are entering an information age where information has been recognised as one of the most important resource for an organisation to remain competitive and resilient. The availability, accuracy and the relevancy of informations could have a profound effect on the survival and the growth of an organisation. This is especially true with the onset of the knowledge economy.

As a service oriented organisations serving the public at large, local authorities need to be more transparent in its roles, functions and directions. This could be achieved through the availability of informations through websites like this. A higher level of customer satisfaction and respect could be allained through such transparency. In addition, the website could also serve as an interactive communication channel between the customers and the policy makers.

Our priorities and projects are strategically planned towards meeting those expectations. Together, we shall work towards improving the quality of life of our present and future generations.

Thank you.

Cr. James Laju ak Ambok
Chairman,
Sibu Rural District Council.
